Bulletin – August 1st

I remember the first time the words jumped off the page at me, just after the most intense betrayal I had yet to experience. In one of those desperate, speak-to-me-God-as-I-flip-open-and-point Bible reading moments, I glanced through blurred salt water at something so appropriate, it was almost unwelcome: “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (Jn 13:35 NKJV).” That verse has never let go of me since. It is what I come back to every time I note divisive and unloving words televised in the name of Christ; every time I hear a story of someone who won’t come to church for fear of judgment; every time I desire to venture into “un-hindered ministry” without the complication of other people, or put up a wall in a relationship to avoid being hurt – again. Just when I want to say “good riddance,” I’m challenged to love.

The biggest evangelistic tool we have at our disposal isn’t our talents or abilities, our knowledge or testimony, or even how we embrace the poor or “unsaved.” No, our Christ-likness is most potent when we are able to navigate relationships with other often frustrating Christians- in other words- BE the Church. In a world so acquainted with divorce, the act of NOT breaking relationship is a stand alone testimony that speaks louder than any sermon or tract of our God’s grace and power. And besides, if the Savior of the World is letting me represent Him, I should probably take all the help I can get.

SLEEPING BAGS
Invest with us into our community of those who don’t have a place to live. We want to supply sleeping bags for all of our homeless people to be handed out in Sept. at our Savior Street Talk BBQ. $25 will buy a sleeping bag for someone who needs warmth in the Fall and Winter months. Would you get involved with us? Purchase one or more a the Info Desk. We will stack them at the front of the church auditorium as they are purchased, so we can watch together as we see this need being met. God bless you as you give.

God is changing Hobbema! It was our thrill to be with the church and community this week. We enjoyed the annual camp meetings under the big tent. An amazing number of youth and young adults dedicated their lives to Christ for his service. We were blessed by the ministries of people from Africa, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

Have you read Daniel lately? Perhaps today’s message will peak your interest in this prophetic book.

Lois and I are away with the Hobbema Camp Meetings and family today. We know you will be blessed by Pastor Phil’s message this morning as well as the outdoor concert at Borealis Park tonight.

We invite you to mark your calendar in red for next Sunday night when we shall give thanks and appreciation for Pastor Darren & Andrea. This will be Darren’s final week as Youth/YA Pastor at MGA. You will want to be here to express your love and appreciation for this great couple who have served our community for these past four years! Darren will preach his final message here on Sunday, August 1 (they just might let out the news of their next step!)

During these great summer days remember to “just walk across the street, campground, or room” and make the day special for a new friend!

We invite your prayers on behalf of the La Loche work team who plan to complete much of the work this week. We are hoping that all of the essential needs will be met so that we can see the building put to use for the Lord’s glory. Your prayers, support, and help is greatly appreciated. Watch for the great Dedication Day sometime later in August!

Canada Day Feedback
Heartfelt thanks to all the Canada Day Volunteers. We had almost 100 people sign up to serve as part of the choir, the BBQ, children’s activities, setting up the float, and being part of the parade. What an awesome response to serving our community.

We have great news regarding Abram’s Land. Here is a quote from Abram’s Land Chairman: “Land update – the area structure plan and rezoning to public service lands for our new church facilities was approved at the RMWB council meeting June 22. Surveyors have been on site to complete the legal land survey of 91 acres, in preparation for the transfer of title to Abrams Land Development Corporation for site servicing. Next step – Abrams will now complete and sign the letter of intent to develop this land with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.”

The Psalmist said: “The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1). There is no grander exercise of wonder than the consideration and study of any part of creation. There is nothing that will inspire faith and wonder more quickly. It is our hope that the sessions you will enjoy these days will bring you to a greater appreciation for our world, and for the God who made it. Attitudes, dispositions, and attributes that lead to physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual well-being are available to men today. Many men have found the fountain of health. It is discovered in a personal relationship with God and his Son Jesus. It develops and grows in the act of following this God. If you are a Father today, congratulations! In your quest for success, be a follower of your heavenly Father.

Baptism is a most wonderful event in the life of a believer in Jesus Christ. When you have intentionally given your life to Christ, and have received his free gift of eternal salvation, you are invited to join your Lord in the waters of baptism. In baptism, you are signifying the burial of your old self and the resurrection of your new life in Christ. The act of baptism was a command of Jesus for all who have determined to follow Him (Matthew 28:19). It was also the command of the apostles of Christ (Acts 2:38). A great miracle of blessing takes place in these waters. We invite you to discover this brave new life! CANADA DAY
Our Municipality is investing huge amounts of resources into a spectacular celebration at MacDonald Island for this year’s July 1st! The churches of Fort McMurray would like to send our community a simple message: that we LOVE FORT MCMURRAY. To that end we have agreed that we will volunteer-staff the community children’s activities, the volunteer BBQ, as well as provide an interchurch float in the parade which will include a band that welcomes our community onto the grounds. Sign up today (the City will require a NEW criminal record check for all volunteers at no cost) to be part of an expression of God’s love for and our service to our city. You and your family will still have plenty of time to partake in the festivities yourselves.

It appears that we are moving towards the final lap in obtaining possession of the new land for MGA! The municipal council this week voted 100% of the first reading of the Area Structure Plan for Abram’s Land. We will continue to follow this process through in the coming days. For many who are unfamiliar with this story, we will plan a public re-statement of our future vision
before Summer.

Our summer intern for Children & Family ministries will be here next Sunday. We invite you to meet Danae Rude, graduate of Living Faith Bible College. We also hope to be able to introduce plans for the interim Youth Ministry next Sunday as well.
