I like Asaph. He reminds me that people who are passionate about God are not perfect. In Psalm 73 we get to see this clearly. He confesses that he “envied the arrogant” when he saw their prosperity. He went on to gripe that they always seem to have it together; good health, friends, confidence, and so forth, finally declaring that his own determination to be pure was pretty much a waste of time. But then comes revelation: “When I tried to
understand all this, it was oppressive to me, till I entered the sanctuary of God…”
What’s been causing you to gripe? What’s been causing you to be upset? Or to fear? Or to panic? Things begin to make sense when we move from the outer perimeter deep into God’s presence. May each of you find God’s peace as you press into Him this year.
