Bulletin – Feb 7th
When I was a young girl and had trouble sleeping, my dad taught me to pray for those in my life who hadn’t yet chosen a relationship with Christ. His explanation was that, IF by chance my restlessness were being caused by some spiritual attack, such prayers would put an end to the agenda quickly, and, if it weren’t, that I’d be putting my sleeplessness to good use. A similar thought occurred to me during a recent bout of, what I’ll call, “relationship envy,” over my single status. At the instant that I wanted to revert into a state of “grass-is-greener,” self-pity, I was convicted to, instead, use the moment to pray God’s will for all the marriages and pre-marital relationships I could think of.
During this relationship, or, what I affectionately call, “singles awareness” month that includes Valentine’s Day, Family Day, and the marital focus of the “Love Dare” challenge, I thought I’d encourage the not-so-married population in our church to be the prayer support behind the marriages that God so desires to move in and restore. Rather than spend time this month wallowing, wishing or even praying for our own relational futures, how about we lay our life agendas aside, and unify together for the sake of marriages and families within our community. That kind of praying might just require a table for one!
